Bimodal IT: What does it mean for CIOs?

Bimodal IT is the new buzzword in technology as it allows enterprises to maintain traditional, tried-and-true systems while newer, more agile models are implemented without disruption. It essentially involves running two separate modes of IT delivery within a business, with one being traditional and safe, while the second is exploratory, agile and fast. The CIO must act as a lifeguard to survey the entire pool of IT activities and make sure they work towards the same strategic goals. The implementation of bimodal IT is a gradual process, but it seems inevitable.
