Innovation Success Through Planning, Preparation, and Organization by Woody Bendle

Innovation success is achieved through purposeful execution of the innovation process. Planning, Preparation, and Organization are the three key elements that contribute to the success of the innovation process. A nine-step i3 Continuous Innovation Process has been developed that guides the development of successful innovations. Planning requires setting goals, identifying resources and capabilities, prioritizing tasks, developing timelines and evaluation measures and protocols for dealing with unexpected obstacles. Preparation involves developing innovation skills and competencies, uncovering unmet consumer needs, brainstorming new ideas, evaluating opportunities, creative rapid prototyping, and the Production Preparation Process. Organization involves knowing where to find and access data, research, knowledge, tools and materials, creating physical spaces conducive to creativity, collaboration and innovation, and being efficient throughout the innovation process.
