Survivorship bias

Survivorship bias

Survivorship bias is a selection bias that causes humans to focus on successful people or products which made it past a selection process and ignore the examples that did not make it through. One example is the tendency to compare new innovative ideas to what has previously survived or look for success stories and ignoring the failures. This mindset can be damaging when assessing or developing new ideas, and it's important to be aware of survivorship bias to make better decisions when developing new ideas.
