The difference between continuous improvement and innovation

The absence of a genuine organization to regulate innovation creates a problem as continuous improvement programs are frequently labeled as innovation. Despite using brainstorming and enhancing products, services, or processes, they only deliver an incremental improvement rather than a radical solution. Picasso and a paint by numbers user are both artists, but the latter merely reproduces an existing product, while Picasso generates something new and exciting. Continuous improvement can make modest improvements, but it can't provide new products or services. To achieve disruptive innovation, one must recognize and respond to emerging needs and expect creative results.
