Is Innovation Helped or Hurt by Self-Censorship?

Mark Turrell, the CEO of Imaginatik, wrote an interesting blog post regarding limiting the number of ideas. He suggested encouraging numerous irrelevant ideas is counterproductive. The article challenges this perspective and explains three elements of Enterprise 2.0- emergence, filters, and culture. Emergence values ideas and knowledge throughout the organization, not just in the executive suite. Filters are necessary to handle an avalanche of contributions, and clarify and communicate the value of ideas. Culture encourages employees to contribute fully and meaningfully, creating an environment that values the contribution of many people and experiences.
