Scientific Management, Taylorism and how employees are prevented from innovating

The Harvard Business Review's podcast, HBR Ideacast, talks about the four business ideas that changed the world. One of the episodes talks about Taylorism, a management theory that aims to produce a flawless process with the highest amount of efficiency. However, it assumes that consultants or decision-makers are the only ones intelligent enough to come up with the correct solution, taking away the autonomy and ability of the workers to suggest improvements. Taylorism discourages innovation and new ideas, which can slow down progress in the long run. Companies and jobs are still affected by the principles of Taylorism today, removing employees' ability to make decisions and completely dictating what they should do.
